There's been a long-standing dispute over the use of the name Budweiser between Anheuser-Busch and the Czech brewery Budejovicky Budvar. Although in terms of quality, the latter is clearly the superior lager. Why anyone here in the EU pays import prices for American Bud when there are superior and cheaper European beers is beyond me. Clever marketing and the American mystique, I suppose. Perhaps the same reason it was popular among the students here last year to grow mullets and dress like American white trash. I crossed the ocean to get away from my redneck family, and suddenly trailer-trash couture becomes all the rage ...

Thanks for the clarification. I should have checked into that before I published it. I guess that's the downfall of using the copy/paste technique of writing.
As far as the mullets... Is there a store similar to Walmart in England, where you can go Mullet hunting? That sport has always been a minor fascination of mine. It seems the world has become America's suburb. Unfortunate.

What you said was perfectly true. Both beers are named after the town Budejovice. The only difference is that one is good and the other ... well, that's the stuff you buy to encourage your friends to bring their own beer to the barbecue. As for the mullets, there aren't quite enough around to make for good sport, but chav-spotting is probably the closest equivalent here. McDonalds is always full of them, probably because no respectable Brit eats at MickeyD's ...

P.S. Thailand is cool...and hot. But I've got a story for you. It'll have to wait though. Oh the suspense. Ciao.

Hey Lauren! I'm glad to see that you're alive! I turned on NPR this morning and heard about the tsunami that apparently wiped out Asia entirely. My stomach has been in knots since. I can't wait to hear your story!
